West Seattle Skincare Advice: Get Some Sleep!

Are you a night owl, or just burning the candle at both ends? If so, your lack of sleep could show on your face. The recommended amount of sleep is 7-9 hours each night, and if you’re getting 6 hours or less, your skin (and beauty) could be paying the price!

While you sleep, blood flow to the skin is higher, delivering vital nutrients and removing waste. Not enough sleep can leave your skin dull and sallow and you just don’t have that rosy glow anymore.

Adequate sleep helps with dark circle as well, since when blood isn’t flowing it collects under your eyes and shows up as those awful ‘bags’ we all dread. Lying on your back while you sleep can help alleviate this problem.

While you’re sleeping, the water in your system is brought back into balance and your skin regains moisture, while excess water is eliminated. If you don’t get enough sleep, you’re susceptible to puffy eyes and, those awful ‘bags’ once again.

Reduced sleep can also lead to an increase in the stress hormone cortisol, which can aggravate conditions like acne, and can even lead to hair loss!
Treat your skin right, and get enough sleep!
